The exhibition, A Tidy House, deconstructs and delves into the physical, emotional, psychological and philosophical territory of a house and scrutinises what it means to us. While a house is a tangible material structure and an architectural construction, it is, above all, an intimate and personal space; a building in which we experience much of our lives. For most of us, a house is a place where we feel safe, secure and protected, so it is difficult to comprehend the impact of the loss of our house and of being in a state of homelessness.
In this discussion, the artists will explore their personal experiences of creating artwork about these cherished and everyday spaces. They will highlight the importance of collaboration, communication and collective agency over presenting the exhibition from geographically and conceptually diverse perspectives. They will frame the idea of house both in the private realm which embraces the everyday and familiar, and in a wider societal context of the increasing insecurity to this basic human need for shelter and safety.
Speakers: Sixfold Project artists - Barbara Dover, Julie Poulsen, and Jennifer Valmadre
