2021 FNQ Contemporaries is an exhibition that was initiated to support the Cairns Art Gallery Artists Fellowship Program which is proudly supported by the Cairns RSL Club.
In partnership with the Cairns RSL Club the Cairns Art Gallery offered three Fellowships of $7,500 each to provide financial support for the artists to develop a new body of work for a solo exhibition at the Gallery.
Fifteen artists were shortlisted for the 2021 Fellowships from over 100 submissions by the judging panel comprising of Janina Harding, Artistic Director, Cairns Indigenous Art Fair; José Da Silva, Director, UNSW Galleries; and Andrea May Churcher, Director, Cairns Art Gallery.
The 2021 FNQ Contemporaries exhibition presents work by the shortlisted artists.
The Fellowships were open to creative practitioners from all art, craft and design disciplines, at any stage of their career development and who reside in the region served by the Cairns Art Gallery (from Cardwell in the south, west to Normanton and Mornington Island and north to the Torres Strait Islands).
The three artists to receive the 2021 Fellowships were Janet Fieldhouse, Mahar Gorospe-Lockie and Francesca Rosa.
