Geoff Dixon was born in Bluff, New Zealand, in 1954. He is an established artist who works across a range of media, including painting, collage, and sculptural assemblage. Prior to relocating to Cairns, Queensland, in 2020 he had exhibited extensively in New Zealand.
Through his arts practice, Geoff explores environmental issues that are based on present realities rather than on imagined futures. He often incorporates birds in his works as a device and metaphor for portraying a chaotic, misunderstood, and misrepresented natural world and the relationship that we have with it.
Geoff has a deep understanding of and affinity with the tactility of paint, and an ability to layer different media and sculptural elements to create complex assemblages that reveal a world that is in a state of flux and at risk.
Geoff has an extensive exhibition history in both NZ and Australia and his work is represented in major Australian and international public and private collections.
He is represented by Bowen Galleries, Wellington, NZ.
