Artist Showcase | Elizabeth Hunter

Elizabeth Hunter was born in Sydney in 1961 and lives and works in Cairns, Queensland. Elizabeth is a master printmaker who has a passion for thinking outside the square. Her approach to life is informed by experiences gained over many years of travelling and studying overseas.

In her 2019 exhibition at the Cairns Art Gallery entitled Decadence, she presented a body of work that explored the darker side of the human psyche and raised questions about whether we as humans have lost the ability to feel and show empathy and compassion. Together her works on paper offered an imaginative analysis of the complexity of human nature and its capacity to simultaneously experience love and loathing, lust and loyalty, brutality and kindness.

Elizabeth’s work continues to be informed by an acute empathy and compassion for people and the many foibles, inconsistencies and inadequacies that make us who we are. Her work is represented in the Collection of the Cairns Art Gallery.
